Historical Building or Listed with the National Trust

Insurers generally require properties classified as Heritage listed or National Trust to be independently valued to determine the full replacement cost of rebuilding the property.

• Rented to Tenants (Short term basis) - You own the home but rent it out for periods less than three months, or
   
• Owner Occupied and rented to tenants (Short term basis) - You ordinarily live in your home but rent some or all of your home out for short term periods (less than 3 months) for a total of 6 weeks or more across the year, or
   
• Weekender/Holiday Home and Rented to Tenants (short term basis) - You own and use as your own weekender/holiday home but it is rented out for individual periods less than three months, and for more than 6 weeks across a year

Building Type

 

Freestanding House – Freestanding House with no shared walls.

Townhouse – A residence that is part of a development of similar residences in the same complex, often part of a Strata Plan and can sometimes be referred to as a villa.

Terrace - One of a row of multi storey residences (usually identical) that all share a wall but with separate house and land titles.

Apartment/Flat/Unit – A residence in a larger building that’s one of a number of similar residences in the same building, often part of a Strata Plan.

Semi Detached – A residence which shares one common wall with a similar residence on separate house and land titles.

Duplex/Triplex/Quadplex – Adjoining residences with common walls and on separate titles. If owner of whole duplex/triplex/quadplex on same title then quote as owner block of flats/units/apartments.

Block of Flats/Units/Apartments – You own a whole block of similar residences that make up an entire building and rent out the individual units to long term tenants with Rental Agreements.

Granny Flat – Self-contained accommodation either part of a house or on the same land title.

 

Caravan (portable) – a vehicle equipped for living in that is capable of being towed by a vehicle.

Fixed/onsite caravan – a vehicle equipped for living in that is permanently fixed at the site and connected to some utilities.

Cabin – a standalone building that is not connected to electricity, town water or other utilities.

If your property is part of a Stata Plan, then you are not required to get for cover for Building and Contents and/ or Building Only. Proceed with Contents Only cover.

As you are renting as the tenant, you can only insure Contents. The property owner should have the Building insured separately.

Number of Levels

1 - Single storey where no utilized space is above or below other than a roof space and underfloor storage.

2 - Double storey where there is living space or extensive storage including a garage on 2 levels.

3+ - More than 3 levels of living space or extensive storage including garage.​

Due to the Accidental Loss or Damage policy being chosen, there is automatic coverage for unspecified items away from home (subject to policy limits). Most of our policies provide automatic cover for up to $10,000 per item and either $50,000 or 25% of the total contents sum insured per claim for unspecified items covered Australia-wide. You only need to specify items that are not covered by this benefit. For example greater than the item limit, or, per claim limit. 

Mechanical or electrical breakdown means:

• Any sudden and unforeseen physical loss or damage which may include (but is not limited to) the actual:
  
• fusion on an electronic motor. Fusion is the process of fusing or melting together of the windings of an electric motor in an insured item following damage to their insulating material as a result of overheating caused by an electrical current;
  
• breakdown, seizing, deformation or explosion of any part of the insured item of machinery;
  
  which is sufficient to prevent the machinery undertaking its normal operation.
  
• If your home is insured by this policy, the Insurer will pay for loss or damage caused by mechanical or electrical breakdown to built-in:
  
• air-conditioners and coolers, and fans;
  
• dishwashers, spa and pool filter motors; and
  
• vacuum cleaners, security gates, or garage doors.
  
  The Insurer also pay the cost to repair or replace an electrical machine or appliance that forms part of your home if it has a mechanical or electrical breakdown.
  
• If your contents are insured by this policy, the Insurer will pay for loss or damage caused by mechanical or electrical breakdown to:
  
• refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, clothes dryers;
  
• portable air-conditioners and coolers, and portable fans;
  
• portable vacuum cleaners, spa and pool filter motors, if the spa or pool filter is not built in, or portable dishwashers; and
  
• water pumps used for domestic purposes.
  
  The Insurer will also pay the cost to repair or replace an electrical machine or appliance that forms part of your contents if it has a mechanical or electrical breakdown.
  
• Unless the mechanical or electrical breakdown is caused by fusion of an electric motor, the Insurer does not pay for the mechanical or electrical breakdown of:
  
• radios. DVD and CD players, audio and amplifying equipment, televisions and video players;
  
• sound or video recorders or cameras, microwave ovens;
  
• equipment or motors under manufacturers guarantee or warranty; or
  
• any item which is more than a certain age depending on policy.
  

Due to some properties being in Flood prone areas, Flood cover is not possible for all locations.

Flood coverage must be explicitly noted on the quote, to be provided. If Flood cover is not advised on the quote, there is no Flood cover.
